Ambassador Brian A. Nichols retires today after a distinguished 36-year career in the United States Foreign Service. As Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs since 2021, Brian has advocated for U.S. interests and provided unwavering leadership to advance democracy, security, trade, and sustainable economic development in the Western Hemisphere.

I have deeply appreciated Brian's expert counsel. His contributions have strengthened the State Department and enhanced U.S. relations with partners around the globe. Brian's legacy in the Foreign Service will continue to influence U.S. foreign policy and bilateral relationships for years to come.

On behalf of the Department of State, I extend our deepest gratitude for Brian's exemplary leadership and dedicated public service, and I wish him all the best in his future endeavors.
