Antony J. Blinken, Secretary of State

I wish to express my solidarity with the Central African people on your sixty-fifth National Day. For too long, armed groups and malign actors have hindered the Central African Republic's great potential, undercut the people's independence, and exploited the country's vast natural resources for the profit of the few over the wellbeing of the many.

As we look ahead to the new year, the United States urges the government and opposition to engage constructively and transparently on the country's first local and regional elections since 1988, for the benefit of the Central African people.

We remain committed to supporting the Central African people in their efforts to achieve security, stability, and prosperity, demonstrated by the United States' continued role as the largest bilateral financial donor to the Central African Republic. The United States stands with the Central African people Maboko na Maboko ("hand in hand").
